Lletwad. Welsh cawl ladle Welsh Sycamore Lletwad
In Welsh a lletwad, a soup ladle to all intents and purposes, although cawl is more a cross between soup and a stew in reality. The hooked end of the ladle was designed to stop it vanishing into the the cauldron, messy! Made of sycamore in the early 20th century it appears to have had very little use, but by then it was already just a little old-fashioned. That may well have been its saving grace. So it has survived to be in amazing condition, silky smooth, and it feels like butter to the touch. It has a minute split in the front of the bowl which is old and completely stable. A little bit of West Wales history it measures 12 1/4" long and almost 4" across the bowl. An almost perfect addition to any treen collection.
