A large pair of provincial Spanish school portraits in period frames. The rather large size suggests an origin in a rather grand 19th century Spanish house. The gentleman appears to be a shipping merchant - objects in the background of portraits of the period almost invariably have a direct correlation to the occupation, or something close to the interests, of the subject. In this case it appears that one of his ships is sailing back into port. These are well executed portraits by a good provincial artist. Oil on canvas, half length.
