Large mid 20th.c. landscape painting by the Belgian artist Henri Joseph Pauwels (1903-1983) c.1960. Painted in oil on canvas measuring 55″ x 28″. A pastoral scene of sheep being driven along a rough track through a flat landscape under pale clouded skies (at dawn or dusk perhaps). Farm buildings with steeply pitched pan tiled roofs in the middle distance with trees silhouetted in the mist beyond. Confidently painted in a loose painterly style typical of Pauwels’ work. Large signature in the lower right hand corner. Excellent condition, presented unframed on the original stretcher.
