Large Antique Backgammon Set (Complete)
This lovely antique backgammon set looks to date from around the turn of the twentieth century. It is of large proportions and is made from a mixture of woods with what we believe to be a fruitwood carcass. The set is complete with fifteen dark and light 2" counters, two leather cups, and two dice. There are no chess pieces present. The box has tooled leather interior. The cups are marked on the base with a maker's mark which we have not been able to identify.
Condition: Overall in fair-good condition and in need of some refurbishment. The wooden box has some quite significant woodworm, which has been treated, and it would benefit from some restoration. There is a repaired patch to one side of the outside of the box. Inside there is some scuffing and cracking to the leather and some grubbiness and wear the pieces. The dice are badly discoloured and both have some cracking and holing.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Closed - 11.5cm high, 36cm wide, 53cm long.
