Large 19th Century English Country House Giltwood Sofa.

This unusual sofa is executed in giltwood and was made in the middle of the 19th century. Aspects of the design are in the antiquarian taste, popular during this period, and the ornament combines gothic detailing such as the capitals on the legs and the spandrel brackets, with Elizabethan revivalism such as the rose motifs. It is of large scale and has real presence but it is not overly ornate and is very tastefully designed, clearly by an architect or designer of great skill.

A lovely and unusual piece that has been upholstered to an under-finish, ready for the client's choice of fabric.
