King George III Period Ebonised Bracket Clock
George III bracket clock in a brass strung lancet style case.
The 8 day duration, 5 pillar, double fusee movement with an Anchor Recoil escapement and rack striking the hours on a rear-mounted bell. Also having pull repeating and a strike/silent selector mounted on the backplate which has geometric border engraving that is also applied to the backcock, hammer cock and pendulum locking block. The lower portion of the backplate also bears a maker's name cartouche with conforming patterning and reads "Gibson. Royal Exchange LONDON".
Behind a 7" diameter, bowed and painted iron dial. The cream coloured background has black outer Arabic 5's, a divided minute track and inner Roman hour numerals applied in the mid 18th century style and also has conforming blued steel pierced hands. The cast brass locking bezel has a snapped-in bowed glass with a bevelled edge.
Contained in an ebonised and brass strung 'Lancet' style case. The upper front arched edge has applied brass reeding that is supported upon brass pillars with integral capitals that are seated within recessed front edges to the case. The case front has inlaid brass stringing in a geometric design above and below the bezel. There is a lower elaborated moulding that is above the short plinth also being inlaid with brass stringing. This in turn sits upon 4 ball-and-plate brass feet. The case sides have brass, ringed lions-head carrying handles that are mounted over lancet shaped sound apertures. These have Gothic style brass frets backed with gold cloth. The back has a glazed and locking conforming door and the repeat cord exits the case through the bottom.

Condition The movement is in working order but would benefit greatly from a complete overhaul and some corrective work to the motion work as it may mis-mesh.
The dial is very good and retains its original paint and showing expected signs of ageing.
The case is excellent and both locks are present and working. The bezel shows signs of poor hinge repair at some point in the past, however, its seems to be stucturally sound.
