Great 17th-century Italian religious painting
Antique 17th-century Italian painting. Oil on canvas, first canvas, artwork depicting Moses Saved from the Waters, the patriarch's discovery in the waters of the Nile by the princess of Egypt.
The composition is dominated by the figure of the pharaoh's daughter, adorned with an elegant crown, a richly draped robe, and a large cloak that enlivens the entire scene. With a gesture of great elegance, the princess extends her hand toward the newborn Moses, presented by a kneeling young girl, while the other maids watch with sympathy as the moment destined to change the course of history is celebrated.
The artist demonstrates remarkable sensitivity in the rendering of expressions and the construction of the draperies, skillfully playing on the contrast between the exquisiteness of the princess's clothing and the simplicity of the other figures. Due to its quality of execution and stylistic language, the work appears to be attributable to the Genoese school of the second half of the 17th century.
Antique gilded wooden frame, not contemporary, with some signs of aging and small losses of gilding. A large, decorative painting of considerable size, ideal for classical settings, libraries, professional studios, or prestigious residences. The artwork has already been restored, with some color restorations, but is generally in good condition. Internal dimensions: H 118 x W 164 cm.
