Verge escapement

Good quality late 18th century London verge, in a fine rose gold case.

MOVEMENT : Nice quality gilded verge fusee movement, with blued screws, diamond endstone, and polished steel balance wheel. Signed and numbered (3928).

All in good condition, and running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial.

In very good condition, with just some surface scratches. May have been refinished, ie. reglazed.

Gilt hands.

CASE : Hallmarks for 18ct gold, London, 1799. Maker’s mark IW.

The rose gold is in good condition, though with a little wear to the back where engraved initials (?RM) are only just visible.

The case snaps shut and the high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine.

Green & Ward are listed at Ludgate Street, London between about 1795 and 1800.

The case maker is probably John Wright, of 43 Red Lion Street, London.
