Painted in June of 1874 in Bad Driburg by gifted painter Princess Marie Alexandrine of Saxe - Weimar - Eisenach (1849 – 1922), eldest daughter and second child of Charles Alexander, Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and his wife Princess Sophie of the Netherlands. Playing children outdoors was a pretty common genre subject for its epoque. But let’s see what is unusual here: The young princess studied painting and made a portrait of the popular teacher August Allebé in 1886, which indicates that she probably attended a few of his open studio lessons for ladies in Amsterdam, but also indicated that she had not given up painting after her marriage.
Size app.: 70.5 x 43 cm (roughly 27.75 x 17 in). Painted in oils on canvas. Very Good. Minimal wear, may require simple re-tension. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 3 kg is going to measure some 5 kg volume weight packed for shipment.
