Georgian Walnut Gainsborough Library Arm Chair
A very fine quality and very original city made George III Gainsborough Library chair in solid walnut with attractive out swept scrolls to the arm supports. Comfortable with a well padded back and capacious deeply padded seat all set on substantial but elegant cabriole legs to front and rear. The front legs carved with acanthus and with carved scrolls at the hocks and strongly scrolled carved feet, the rear cabriole legs with pad feet and well shaped brackets.
Upholstered in a green cut velvet fabric of diamond design and having an antique brass nailed finish. The fabric is in good and clean condition and colour is similar to Farrow & Ball’s Yeabridge Green.
The chair is robust and solid without breaks or repairs and the frame is tight and original. The original seat rails are visible when the chair is turned upside down and these have a few old worm holes – long since dead and nothing to worry about. Small and minor restorations, dings and bruises consistent with age and use but nothing at all significant.
The walnut having developed a very attractive golden colour - particularly to the arms which naturally experience more handling - with a beautiful well defined curling grain.
Dimensions are:
26 inches wide, 29 inches deep and 40 inches high.
Floor to seat is 19 inches and floor to top of arms is 27 inches.
The seat itself is 19 inches wide and 17 inches deep.
For metric please multiply by 2.5 I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
