Georgian Mahogany Wardrobe / Linen Press c1760.
Welcome to Mersham Manor Antiques-
A good, solid George III mahogany linen press / wardrobe.
c1760.
Constructed from mahogany, with oak lined drawers, showing excellent quality.
To the top is a projecting moulded cornice, over double, raised panelled doors. The doors open to reveal a hanging area, with long brass hanging rail, the original slides have been removed. With two bolt locks to the left door and working lock and key to the right door. The lock is a Victorian replacement.
Below is a chest of four drawers-two short and two long.
With replaced brass handles to the drawers, which are slightly later, but still Georgian. All locks are present. Very attractive and ornate gilt escutcheons, which again are replacements but still from the Georgian era.
Standing on ogee bracket feet.
Very easy to move as it can be dismantled into three sections.
The condition is good antique condition, several historical repairs to the veneers, expected knocks and bumps. All resulting in a lovely characterful patina and good rich colour.
A good heavy and solid piece of Georgian antique furniture with character. All the drawers are very solid and robust.
The dimensions are taken at highest, widest, deepest points.
Height-179cm
Width including cornice-131cm. Width of chest-122cm.
Depth-62.5m.
Internal hanging measurements-
Height-86cm.
Width-115cm.
Depth-57.5cm.
