Georgian Leather Trunk
This is a fine Georgian Tan Leather Travelling Chest
Dating to the early years of the 19th Century - the Regency period or earlier, the trunk is of small size and might well have been a Ladies companion for stage coach journeys. Equally it could have been in use in the home as a deed or document chest.
- it has charm, character and an indefinable beauty that comes from age and loving use.
The trunk is of wooden construction, cased in brown leather to the top and all 4 sides. All of the margins have been 'close nailed' with domed brass studs for protection and to reduce the risk of damage to the edges.
There are nailed initials to top also - 'RM' which may have been applied at a later date for one of its owners.
It has it's original lock plate, and iron carrying handles.
The blue paper lining is original, and where worn it can be seen there is newspaper underneath, laid down first to reduce any uneven roughness from the wooden boards and make the inside flat to take the blue paper finished surface lining.
It is in very good order throughout. There has been some worm in the past which is now no longer active, and the holes are filled.
