George III Silver Mustard Spoon, London, 1807
A George III Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the traditional Old English pattern. The spoon is made in London by Thomas James and dates to 1807. Thomas James was a specialist spoon maker who worked in London between around 1804 and 1830.
This is a good example of a particular type of Georgian mustard spoon with its long stem and more pronounced angle between stem and bowl, quite different to the style found on later mustard spoons and already going out of fashion by the time this spoon was made. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind on the spoon.
Condition is good with no dings or dents and only the superficial wear you would expect after over 210 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard spoon is 11.3cm / 4.4" long and weighs a respectable 10.0g / 0.35oz.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter "M" for 1807, the George III duty mark and the T.J makers' mark for Thomas James.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
