George III Mahogany Inlaid Cabinet Bookcase

Circa 1790, good George III mahogany inlaid breakfront cabinet bookcase. The architectural broken pediment top has foliate carving in the centre and dentil carved decoration, above the frieze with satinwood, ebony and boxwood inlay and flame mahogany veneers. Below this are four glazed doors with very stylish astragals and the original glass. Each section has three adjustable shelves with a concave facing and reeding top and bottom. The back of the bookcase is backed in pink water silk. On the base are four cupboards with matching flame mahogany panels and large crossbanding with inlay framing. Inside on the left and right are adjustable shelves and the centre section is fitted with various fitted drawers with cast brass handles, a small slide and a row of tins for index cards (this bookcase came from a solicitor’s office). The whole piece stands on an enclosed plinth. The bookcase is neat size with good colour.
