George II Penny Moon Pull Quarter Bracket Clock
A very Rare George II Penny Moon Pull Quarter Repeat Bracket Clock by G Somersall c1750, The bell top ebonised case with glazed sides and rear door has been carefully cleaned to remove years of dirt, dust and wax to reveal its original shellac finish.
The cast brass dial with the makers name engraved to the lower chapter ring also features an engraved date aperture, mock pendulum with engraved “face” to the bob and an incredibly rare penny moon aperture with age of moon and time of high tide sub dials within. As well as this there is a concealed strike/silent lever situated to the left hand cherub head spandrel.
The fine double fusee movement with six bell silent pull quarter repeat and pull repeat rack strike system. The verge ( crownwheel) escapement is original and allows the bob to swing in front of the exquisite engraved backplate the features four engraved faces including a grotesque with missing teeth! The fine cartouche with G Somersall London within.
G Somersall was for a family of fine clockmakers and operated Leadenhall Street, London c1750
This an incredibly rare penny moon bracket antique clock in a most original condition and demonstrates the sheer craftsmenship of these Georgian makers.
