George II Burr Walnut card table


A rare George II Burr Walnut and feather banded card table in the manner of Benjamin Crook, the rectangular lobed, hinged top enclosing a tooled suede playing surface with four guinea wells and candle stands to each corner above the frieze drawer the whole raised on cabriole legs with shell, bellflower and scrolling to the knees and terminating in trefoil feet.
Circa. 1735
H:28.75”, 73 cms, W:31”, 79 cms, D:15,25”, 39 cms.
Note: The lobed top and shell carved cabriole legs are almost identical to a table by Benjamin Crook snr. Sold Christie’s London, 15th. April 1999, lot 107. This had previously been in the collection of D. Griffiths F.S.A. by 1924 and was sold previously by his executors at Christie’s London, May 10th. 1939.
