French Directoire marble top commode c1800
Beautifully proportioned late 18th to early 19th century French walnut and brass inlaid marble top commode in the Directoire style, with a Paris makers mark. Circa 1800.
The size of this commode is one of its highlights, being on a smaller scale than many this will sit anywhere and look fabulous without overpowering a smaller room.
Lovely original shaped marble top matching the front corners to those turned and fluted columns over three full width drawers, all of which are chestnut lined and run very well. The simple brass inlay and original handles gently highlight and contrast with the colour and patina, but the whole piece is supported by those beautifully elegant turned and tapered legs with further brass collars and caps.
Measuring:
86.5cm high x 96.5cm wide x 48cm deep Based in Uppingham, Rutland…having been in the business for 25 years focusing on mostly French and English decorative antiques and interiors from the 18th to the early 20th century, hopefully a collection you will enjoy browsing and hopefully re home some of my finds!
Viewing here in Uppingham is very welcome in my spacious barn studio but also I have a showroom based within the Uppingham Antiques Centre, which is well worth a visit and have a good lunch in town too!
