Fine Georgian Gillows Mahogany Washstand Georgian Gillows Lancaster %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Outstanding quality early 19th century George III mahogany large size double washstand made by GILLOWS of LANCASTER. Although not stamped this washstand came originally from FASQUE CASTLE in Aberdeenshire which is well documented as having been partly refurbished by Gillows in the early 19th century. The washstand is of outstanding quality having been made from the best of timbers as can be seen in the photos.

Typical Gillows thin reeded legs with original brass castors. The front has two "dummy" drawers at either end with a proper drawer in the middle which is all mahogany lined. The large high splash back (gallery) is made of beautiful mahogany and is mitre dovetailed at the corners. The top has cut outs for two bowls and also has dished out sections for soaps etc, in the middle.

The piece is in very good condition and is a nice colour. 1 brass knob is a contemporary old replacement.

As good a washstand as I've seen.

SIZE 44" wide by 21" deep by 30" high to the top. 39" high overall.
