Fine George 2nd walnut and elm chest on stand
FINE George II veneered walnut and elm chest on stand, formerly from HADDOW HOUSE in Aberdeenshire, the home of Lord Aberdeen.
This beautiful small size chest on stand is of outstanding original colour and patination. The top section with two over three drawer configuration. The drawers with moulded edge and a boxwood line with cross-banding and the beautiful original brass fretted handles. The cross grain top cornice mould is a very nice shape with pine top.
The ORIGINAL stand has one drawer of the same construction as the top section and square cabriole legs. The cabriole legs have been re-done in Georgian times as the original elm ones would have either rotted or been very badly worm damaged.
The sides of both the top and bottom sections are solid elm and are a lovely rich dark colour and patination.
The drawers are all pine lined.
The colour of this piece is outstanding, as good as you'll get on early walnut. Apart from the repaired legs to the stand everything else is original and un-touched.
SIZES The base section is 38" wide, the top section is 36" wide. 20" deep. 61 1/2" high overall
