Fine Edwardian mahogany desk Edwardian writing desk %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A fine quality Edwardian Sheraton revival mahogany desk. The desk stands on elegant straight tapered legs with spade feet. There are two main drawers beautifully veneered in book matched flame mahogany with a wide band of satinwood crossbanding. The drawers are all mahogany lined and have the original gilded brass handles, both drawers also have working locks with a key. The desk has a fine and beautifully proportioned superstructure with two banks of two small drawers again all flame mahogany with a good wide band of satinwood crossbanding. The back also has a beautiful panel of book matched flame mahogany which balances brilliantly with the drawers. The superstructure also retains the original brass gallery. The desk top is again beautifully veneered in flame mahogany with a satinwood crossbanding and it retains the original leather which is in very good condition for the age.
The whole is in great condition with a lovely colour and original patina. The only slight negative is that on of the superstructure drawers has had one handle replaced a long time ago with a handle of a slightly different design this is not obvious and doesn't detract from the look of the desk.
A really good example of it's type, in great condition and with a very elegant, simple and refined look. C.1900.
