Fine and Rare Repeating Carriage Clock
D.
This is a most rare and beautiful repeating carriage antique clock of French manufacture dating circa 1880.
In over 30 years I have heard of , but never seen , the silvered brass panels which are hand painted and the certain areas highlighted by engraving. The effect is quite beautiful , no doubt aided by the delightful scenes of colourful birds drinking water. The main dial bears the retailers - Martin and Co , Cheltenham who were one of the countries finest retailers in Victorian times outside of London
I have enclosed close up images of the panels which show their detail. They are protected by bevelled glass
The case is of complicated construction and typical form is very nice in that four nickle plated canted corners have inset gilded pillars so that the panels appear to be framed in silver.
The 8 day duration movement strikes the hours and half hours on a coiled gong and has a push button repeat facility. It retains the original platform escapement.
The images should show prospective buyers all they need to see but a personal inspection is very welcome.
This is is 7 3/4 inches high with the handle raised. It is 4 1/4 wide. The depth is 3 3/4 inches.
The overall condition is excellent with the movement professionally serviced .It will delight the most discerning client.
It has obviously been well cared for and cherished all its life.
I am unable to determine with certainty the maker
This is a genuine and original clock and I offer a full money back guarantee to this end.
It is very unlikely indeed that a carriage clock with this type of panels will appear on the open market in the foreseeable future.
If a prospective purchaser wishes to contact me directly my contact details are at the bottom of the listing.
