Farr,Bristol Moon Phase Longcase / Grandfather Clock
A 19th century moon phases longcase/Grandfather antique clock. A well proportioned mahogany case with an arched hood pediment with inlays below. Twisted hood columns with corinthian brass capitals. A well proportioned 'Bristol area' case. Choice flame mahogany case veneers with boxwood line inlays. Twist column trunk sides with corinthian tops. An attractive arched painted dial with gilt floral corners and a seconds dials with blued steel hands and date aperture. Lunar moon phases to the arch. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Circa 1830.
The Farr family of clockmakers are well documented and illustrated in A J Moores 'The Clockmakers of Bristol' book. This example by William Farr is a quality example and he worked 1813-1831 at Broad Street, Bristol.
