We are offering for sale this very large oil on canvas by the artist F. ALLEN, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner. The painting depicts a Highland or Lakeland scene, with a small flock of sheep grazing beneath a couple of silver birch trees close to the edge of a loch. The edges of the loch are wooded and there is a mountainous backdrop. There is a small outflow of water from the loch into a small burn to the left of the painting.

F. ALLEN obviously did not exhibit his work, as we have been unable to discover any biographical information about him in our usual reference books. However, his auction results are available at artnet.com (5 listings) and findartinfo.com (3). A 20" x 12" oil of his achieved a price of £421 in Denmark in 2005.

The painting has been newly framed in a 3" swept gilt frame, which suits it very well. It is ready to hang.
