Circa 1860, exhibition quality Victorian burr walnut and brass mounted pier cabinet. The shaped top is crossbanded and has string inlay in kingwood. The fore edge is ormolu mounted and below this a shaped frieze which is profusely inlaid in floral marquetry, and also has chamfered edges. There is a single door which is shaped, crossbanded and has a decorative brass bezel. The whole cabinet is tapering down to the base. The sides are quarter veneered and crossbanded, with large cast mountings on the top and the same on the base. Below the door is a brass mounted plinth which is again shaped, and the whole piece is finished on an enclosed plinth. Wonderful piece of furniture, exceptional quality.
