Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Art Deco walnut two-door single-piece bow front tallboy, circa 1930, boasting stunning coromandel veneers, in excellent original condition.
Comprising of an elegant Art Deco single moulded frame, the 2-door chest boasts an exterior of stunning cross-banded coromandel veneers to the front and figured walnut to the sides. The tallboy, boasting a five-sided front, comprises a stunning coromandel top with up stand to the rear, above two drawers, which feature their original horizontal Bakelite and chrome handles, dovetailing and quarter beading (a sign of quality). The top drawer also includes its original working lock with satinwood oval escutcheon. Below is a spacious cabinet with two removable drawers. The doors to the cabinet are asymmetrical, with the left hand door covering two fifths of the five-sided front, while the right hand door covers the remaining three fifths thus allowing the handle on the right hand door to be perfectly central. The left-hand door retains its original sliding bolts, top and bottom, to secure the door when closed. The right-hand door retains its original working spring-loaded latch, as well as the original working lock (there is a working key to both the cabinet door and the top drawer) with satinwood escutcheon matching the top drawer and vertical Bakelite and chrome handle. Inside, the wardrobe features two removable internal shelves. The tallboy sits on its original curved recessed plinth, which boasts satinwood trim to the top and bottom, and the back features solid backboards.
This is a single piece wardrobe and because of its narrow width, it is ideal for compact rooms, as it consumes very little space.
The item would be at home in any traditional or contemporary setting and consumes very little space. This piece boasts classic Art Deco styling in the overall design of the straight lines moulded frame, corners, clean lines to the tops, the handles and the plinth.
This wardrobe features a rich dark brown coromandel colour. It has a lovely colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

This tallboy is in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and inside frame, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The compactum retains all its original fittings and there are no missing veneers. The doors retain the original Bakelite & chrome handles and door latches, in working condition. The doors close flush to the frame. The drawers feature quality dovetail construction, quarter beading (a sign of quality) and also close flush to the frame. The wardrobe retains its original backboards and it stands on its original recessed plinth. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
