Empire Style Secretaire Abattant c.1820.
Stunning early 19th.c. Empire style secretaire abattant or writing bureau c.1820. Open the fall to reveal a large desk (height 27″) with the original tooled leather writing surface. Superb fitted interior featuring an open bookshelf and several small stationery drawers (one locking) plus one long drawer and a couple of secret compartments held closed with hidden spring catches. Original black marble top over a single long frieze drawer above the bureau and a two door cupboard in the base, fitted with three further drawers.
Exceptional flame mahogany veneers, laid in a symmetrical pattern across the front. Flanked with tall columns also veneered to match and with quality gilded and tooled brass mounts to the terminals. Beautiful Empire style gilded mounts to the frieze drawer and above the columns, featuring Classical winged nymphs. Large gilded escutcheon plates also decorated with classical motifs. Mahogany lined interior with original knobs and the same gilded mounts to the columns either side of the open shelf. Fabulous quality, note the oversized brass locks, oak drawer linings and back panel. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and polished in our workshops. Keys supplied.
