Edwards & Mahogany Inlaid Roll Top / Cylinder Desk
A stunning quality Edwardian period mahogany inlaid cylinder/roll top desk by Edwards and Roberts, in the Sheraton revival style.
The finest quality fiddle back mahogany crossbanded with satinwood and ebony/boxwood stringing.
The whole desk profusely inlaid with the highest quality marquetry to the front, sides and legs, with very fine and delicate pen and ink work decoration.
The desk can be freestanding as the rear is finely veneered in quality fiddle back mahogany with satinwood cross banding.
The fully fitted interior having compartments with an oxblood tooled and gilded hide sliding writing tablet.
Two mahogany lined drawers and raised on square inlaid tapering legs.
The right hand drawer is stamped Edwards & Roberts.
Hobbs of London locks on each drawer and the roll top.
The desk is in wonderful condition with a beautiful colour and finish.
The desk is certainly one of the best examples of Edwards and Roberts cabinet work you will see.

The firm Edwards and Roberts were among the best English antique furniture cabinet makers of the second half of the eighteenth century. The company was founded in 1845 and by 1854 was trading as ‘Edwards and Roberts’, 21 Wardour Street, Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture’. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers and the firm produced high quality antique furniture, as well as good copies of the 18th and 19th century English and French pieces. There workmanship included pieces with satinwood marquetry and favoured the Georgian designs.
