Edwardian Silver Napkin Ring, Joseph Gloster, 1901
This is an elegant Edwardian Sterling Silver Napkin Ring. The ring is in the capstan style with bands of engine turned decoration around the top and bottom of the body and beaded rims. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The napkin ring was made in Birmingham by silversmith Joseph Gloster and dates to 1901. Joseph Gloster registered his first mark at the Birmingham assay office in 1888 and set up business at the Lion Silver Works. The firm produced a very wide range of silverware and were quickly successful, becoming Joseph Gloster Ltd in 1901. They remained in business up until around 1980.
Condition is very good with just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The napkin ring is 4.6cm / 1.8ins in diameter and 2.4cm / 0.94ins deep. It weighs in at 18.2g / 0.64oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the side of the body, are nice and clear to read. They shoew the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter b for 1901 and the J.G makers' mark for Joseph Gloster.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
