Edward Piper Oil Painting of Woman's Head, 1985

This is a striking oil painting on black card of a young woman's head signed by the artist, Edward Piper, and dated 1985. It is presented in its original pale lilac mount board and gilt wood frame. It is a wonderfully simple modernist portrait of a young woman with shoulder length hair resting her chin and left cheek on her left hand.
Edward Piper (1938–1990) was the eldest son of the artist John Piper and his wife Myfanwy. Piper produced photographs for the Shell County Guides and also undertook graphic design commissions to make a living. He continued on to study figurative art and painting female nudes he later painted landscapes, in Corsica, Malta, France, Italy and Spain. A number of Piper's lithographs and screenprints are to be found in the Tate Gallery collection.
Dimensions: Width 54 cm x Height 48 cm x Thickness 2.1 cm
Condition: There is some minor flaking of the white paint and the mountboard has some age-related discolouration.
