Early Georgian Oak Lowboy.

This is a really fine piece of early 18th C English Antique Furniture.
An English oak Lowboy of curvilinear design, dating to about 1725, (George 1).
It has a beautifully flowing ogee arched apron, which curves continuously through the tops of the legs where it is highlighted by carved scroll details to the brackets, and down the full length of each leg. This is repeated on the back legs, maintaining the design to both sides of the table.
The inside edges of the legs have been cut back to accentuate the carved detail and ensure that the flowing line from the apron continues without blemish down each leg. Beautiful design and meticulous craftsmanship.
The drawers are all original, undamaged and have rebated and nailed pine linings.
They fit flush with the casing and are edged with incised 'scratched' borders - the precursors of cock beading which became more popular later in the Century.
It is made of dense heavy English oak with excellent nut brown colour, figuring and patina.
The brass bail handles and plates are period replacements. They have the same centres as the originals.
An excellent piece of antique furniture.
Dimensions:
79 cm x 51cm x 72 cm high
