Here we have a delightful little French 800 Silver Mesh Coin Purse from the early years of the 20th century. The silver mesh has five silver beads hanging from the bottom row and is attached to the hinged frame at the top. The frame is decorated with a neat engraved design and has a snap fastening. There is a small loop on one side of the frame so that the purse could be attached to a chain or chatelaine.

These mesh purses were very popular from the 1890s through until the 1930s. They varied in size from a small handbag down to ones designed to hold just a few coins, such as the one we have here. The best quality ones are generally agreed to be those from France.

Condition is very good with no damage to the mesh, all five beads intact and a securely fastening top. It is perfectly usable today or would make a nice addition to a collection. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The purse is 8cm / 3.1\" from bead to clasp, 5.3cm / 2.1\" across the frame and weighs 24.5g / 0.86oz.

Both halves of the frame are stamped with the boar\'s head mark, which shows that it is French and of 800 grade silver.
