Early 19th Century Mahogany Towel Rail
An original early 19th century towel rail (circa 1820), a familiar period design, this particular model has a bit more interest in that the rails are all shaped and turned rather than the more common straight spindle.
These are great survivors, it always amazes how an everyday and hardworking item of antique furniture which is, by its form, quite delicate manages to survivor the rigours associated with its function. This has fared really well, it has no breaks nor repairs, has an untouched original patina and only a slight bend in one of the top rails, perfectly acceptable in an item this old and having given two hundred odd years of service. If its original honest period you want then this is to be recommended.
Size: Overall Height 38 1/2 inches overall width 24 3/4 inches the spread of the foot is 10 1/4 inches and the top rail end bracket is 9 inches wide. Buchanan and Laing Galleries are a private client business. Appointments can be made by arrangement via email.
