Born in Maida Vale, London, England in 1944 to Irish parents, artist Thomas O'Donnell was a civil engineer and steel fixer by profession. He worked in construction in the Middle East before returning to London where he was employed on various engineering projects, including the Millennium Bridge. He retired to Uckfield, East Sussex, England.

He died in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, England in 2020. His work is influenced by Classical and Old Master traditions but also extends to abstraction, all done with his signature modernist fluidity.
