Chinese Elm Altar Table
A late 19thc/early 20thc Chinese altar table, in elm wood, with a painted finish.
This table has a solid elm top, this was originally painted but now has more of a 'distressed' surface to it where the paint has worn. The other parts of the table have more of the original paint intact.
The table has everted ends and carved spandrels in the form of dragons. There is a central front & back carved frieze and open side panel legs, pierced with a circular design.
These antique tables were found in many Chinese homes and used to honour loved ones, both past & present.
Although they were used for worship, they were also used to display heirlooms & trinkets.
