A Cheshire Georgian period moon phase longcase clock. A well proportioned oak case with mahogany crossbanding. A swan-neck hood pediment with wooden central finial. Fluted trunk side columns and canted base sides. An attractive arched painted dial with floral corners, date and seconds dials. Lunar moon phases to the arch. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.
The Burchall clockmakers worked in Cheshire in the 18th and 19th centuries. This example signed Thomas Burchall, Nantwich dates to circa 1790. Illustrations and details are shown in Appleby's 'Clockmakers of Cheshire' book.
