C19th Oak Two Over Two Graduated Chest of Drawers

This attractive chest of drawers dates from the early part of the nineteenth century. It is constructed from oak and has lovely cross-banded edging to the top and drawer fronts. The chest consists of two small drawers over two long drawers, all of which are graduated in size. It is supported on later bun feet. The chest retains its locks, but most of the escutcheons are missing and no key is present.
Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall faded. There is a small area of veneer loss to the cross-banding on the top, and the top has some dark marks and scratching. There is some wood shrinkage splitting to the sides. There is some cock-beading missing to the middle drawer. As is mentioned above the bun feet are later (probably early twentieth century replacements). One of the handles on the bottom drawer appears to be a replacement. There is a small area of veneer missing from the right-hand side at the bottom edge.
The approx. measurements are as follows
Overall - 89cm high, 95.5cm wide,48.5cm deep (to maximums). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
