Burr Walnut Breakfront Open Bookcase

A substantial and finely crafted open bookcase of classical inspiration, executed in richly figured burr walnut veneers and of shallow breakfront form, the central section projecting subtly forward to create a gently stepped and architecturally balanced profile.
The piece is of low, elongated proportion, divided into three principal bays by robust uprights with applied pilaster detailing, each section fitted with adjustable shelving. The broader central compartment is flanked symmetrically by narrower end sections, providing both visual harmony and practical versatility.
The top is of breakfront outline with a moulded edge above a frieze decorated with continuous figured veneer panels, the lively burr walnut grain lending depth and movement throughout. The uprights are similarly veneered and framed with fine banding, reinforcing the cabinet’s structured, classical character. The base is boldly moulded, with inset panels echoing the figured veneers, and raised on block feet that give the piece a strong, grounded presence.
