I have pleasure in offering for sale a very fine Grande Sonnierre striking true Vienna wall antique clock which can be firmly attributed to Wenzel Schonberger who is my personal favorite of all the Viennese clockmakers of this time.
I have seen quite a few antique clocks by this maker and never come across a poor example,however I have seen quite a few that are staggering in quality and design.His clocks are of superior quality to his contemporaries and this particular clock is no exception.
The case is veneered in the finest rosewood and double strung with boxwood and is a design typical of Schonbergers work.The carved cresting is present and the condition excellent.
The two piece enamel dial has a lovely pie crust bezel that retains the original gilding.The brass backed knife edge pendulum is in excellent condition as are the weights.
The 8 day duration weight driven is again of superb quality and functions perfectly having been recently restored by Master Clockmaker , Adrian Overton of Chesterfield.It has a complicated Grande Sonnierre quarter striking movement which has a strike/ silent facility..
The movement and dial are original to the case.Wenzel Schonberger was working in Vienna from 1847 to 1885 and became Burgermeister.

The overall condition is as good as you could expect from a clock of this age.
