Arts and Crafts,1900s, Oak 3 Tier Cake / Plate Stand Arts and Crafts Oak Cake Stand
A rare and unique design of an English small furniture item prevalent in the 19th and early 20th century. This is very much in the fashion of the Arts and Crafts movement, simple clean lines, aesthetically appealing and beautiful in its simplicity and at the same time different and eminently functional. Made from oak, with turned and hand crafted carpentry throughout.

There are three graduated circular platters with turned central dish and rounded cushion edges, each tier is supported by a single cantilever fixed arm to the underside, spurred from a 'spine/column' shaped as a stylised swan neck. (or maybe a crook). Every element of this stand is carefully designed, everything about it is balanced, from the size of each platter to the thickness of the column , its gentle sloping form, neatly chamfered edges, curved feet and to the underside of the support arms. The support arms are all jointed into the spine onto which the shelves are secured with old slotted wood screws via counter sunk holes. None of the fixings are visible, giving this piece a seamless sinuous form.

This is a highly versatile decorative and functional furniture item.

The condition is excellent, it has its age patina and the signs of having had plates on it, it is rich colour . Everything is solid, all joints and fixings. Stands beautifully. There has been a crack in the central tier, clean and repaired, it also does not affect the structural integrity. The piece is to be recommended.

Size: Overall height 76.5 cm The maximum width at the base is 38.5 cm Each platter is slightly different diameter, top = 21.4 cm middle is 23.5 cm bottom is 27.2 cm.
