Art Nouveau Silver Photo Frame, Munsey & Co, 1905
Here we have a beautiful Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Mounted Photo Frame to hold a circular picture of 3.75ins diameter. The frame is in typical Art Nouveau style with organic flowing lines linking flowers and foliage. The frame is wooden backed with an easel strut.
The photo frame was made for Munsey & Co of Cambridge and assayed in Birmingham in 1905. Established by David Munsey in Cambridge in 1885, Munsey & Co were jewellers, goldsmiths and watchmakers operating from premises in Market Hill. Their mark is most commonly seen on silver items for personal use such as card cases, smoking accessories, letter openers, dressing table items and photo frames.
Condition is good with just a very small ding in the blank cartouche at the top of the frame and a few high points where the silver has been polished through after many years of cleaning. The wooden back and strut are in good order and the hinge works well. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The frame stands 15.6cm / 6.1ins high, is 14.5cm / 5.7ins wide and 10cm / 3.9ins deep with the strut extended. It weighs in at 141.7g / 5oz.
The hallmarks, on the top left and right hand corners, are nice and clear to read. On the right hand side are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, and the date letter f for 1905. On the left hand side is the M & Co Ld sponsors' mark for Munsey & Co Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the frame.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
