Art Deco Stratton compact 'Large Flapjack' vintage bridesmaids giftcompact is suitable for use with modern loose face powder or as a handbag mirror.

Isn't this gorgeous? An authentic Art Deco Stratton in excellent condition. The lid has a blank central cartouche & Art Deco design made up from chevrons which form a design that looks three dimensional. Before Juliette Edward's work on the Stratton archive resulting in her marvelous 'The Stratton Key' the presence of the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo on this model of compact made people think the 'Large FlapJack' was made after WWII. However, from Juliette's research & her meeting people who were given this model before WWII she concludes that the 'Large Flapjack' dates from the late 1930s. A real Art Deco beauty!
The lid lifts to reveal an excellent mirror which gives an accurate reflection. The mirror bezel is signed 'STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND'. The inner lid is decorated with an engine turned design of vertical lines & the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo. As the original sifter (gauze) is in place this compact can still be used with modern face powder. The base is beautiful, golden & has the fine spiral seen on early Stratton compacts.

This magnificent & very beautiful powder compact measures 4 " wide & weighs 175.3 grams.
