Antique Welsh Lovespoon Mrs Smith 1924 Love Spoon
A very good Antique Welsh Lovespoon of stunning traditional form, carved from a single piece of sycamore. Love spoons are found in a huge variety of designs and are often based on everyday utilitarian objects such as Dolphin Spoons, Cawl Spoons, Ladles and scoops. The use of these traditional and familiar forms strengthen the symbolism of the Welsh love spoon making these design types amongst the most important and desirable.
This Welsh Love Spoon is based on a traditional Butter scoop of a type most often found in South West Wales in the dairy farming counties of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.
Displaying several desirable features including the name of recipient, dated 1924, carved foliage symbolising an ever growing love and a traditional shepherds crook hook to the end of the handle. In superb condition with lovely grain and gorgeous soft mellow colour.
