A beautiful Evans solid silver compact made c. 1945 with a basket weave design in very good condition. The lid, sides & base have this striking design & all match perfectly. This model of Evans compact was advertised in Vogue in 1945. The thumb catch & case are signed / hallmarked - 'STERLING' 'EVANS U.S. PAT. 2212440.' All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The bevelled mirror gives a clear & accurate reflection - there is a tiny bit of silver loss on the mirror, as this is only on a tiny part of the bevelled edge it in no way affects the usefulness of the mirror at all. The mirror still has the original sticker which is marked 'STERLING'. The original protective paper insert in still in place in the powder well.
The compact does not look like it has ever had powder in it.

This sterling silver compact measures 8 cm X 6 cm & weighs 96.9 grams.
