This is an antique side table. A Scottish, oak console table with bobbin turned legs, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1870.
Gothic revival taste with wonderful carved decoration
Displays a desirable aged patina
Select oak resplendent in dark hues and fine grain interest
Good consistent colour throughout to the wax polish finish
Elaborate foliate carving to the low up stand
Raised counter with deep, tiered edge
Wisps of medullary rays beam from the generously sized counter top
Upper apron with appealing, naive chip decoration in keeping with the revival taste
Front apron finished with a repetition of the hand-carved acanthus motif
Leading edge of apron finished with fine arcading
Set upon stout, bobbin turned front legs and raised on bun feet
Rear, square section legs united by scrolled stretchers
