This is a very good quality medium sized antique oak three panel coffer believed to have originated from Wales, circa 1650 – 1690.

This is a very good quality mid to late 17th Century (period Charles II, circa 1650 - 1690) oak coffer with good proportions believed to have originated from Wales. The coffer features triple floral motifs on the front panel. The top features three square insert panels and reeded edges. The sides are paneled and the lid is attached with its original iron loop hinges. The coffer features original hand and peg construction. There is a working lock and key. The back of the coffer features a rough hewn paneled back. Inside the coffer there is the original candle box on the left hand side. The coffer stands on its original styles and features a rich deep colour / patination. The coffer would probably have made to commemorate the marriage of couple as it bears two separate sets of initials on the front of the coffer – on the left hand side it is initialed “EH” and “TB” on the right hand side of the coffer. The coffer would be ideal as a storage box in a bedroom in front of a bed.

This item would look great in a variety of rooms from the hall way, to the living room or bedroom in front of a bed. It has a beautiful deep rich oak patina which has been generated by the centuries of cleaning and care it has received.
