Hall Writing Table - by George Davis, Plymouth - c1890
This ebonised writing hall table is a pleasing example of the Aesthetic Movement antique furniture by cabinet maker and upholsterer George Davis of Plymouth, Devon, England.
The desk is presented in very good antique order throughout with all joints being solid.
The desk rides upon elegantly turned legs which are united by a train-line X-stretcher creating a robust and attractive base for this lovely desk. The legs terminate in original castors with beaded cap ring detailing.
To the under-edge of the upper surface there are quarter round carved detail pieces providing additional interest and typical of the period.
Overall the desk is well constructed and very solid and is an item of furniture offering style & practicality which will suit a variety of locations and applications.
