Antique French Giltwood Console Table with Marble
A magnificent 19th-century French giltwood console table, richly carved in the Louis XVI taste and retaining its elegant original white marble top with moulded edge. The frieze is exquisitely decorated with classical rosettes, bead-and-reel moulding and finely detailed foliate carving, all highlighted by the original water-gilded finish.
The console is raised on a pair of fluted tapering legs adorned with carved ribbon-tied laurel swags, united by a graceful shaped stretcher centred with a beautifully carved classical urn. The shaped marble top sits perfectly above the sweeping giltwood frame, creating an impressive yet refined architectural form.
An outstanding decorative piece, ideal for a grand entrance hall, drawing room or reception space, combining exceptional craftsmanship with timeless French neoclassical elegance.
