Antique English Apple Wood Display / Jewellery Box
A fabulous and rare box dating to the late Victorian era, around 1880. Made from Apple Wood it is trimmed in cast gilded trim to the top and bottom and a gilded beaded bezel around the original bevelled glass.
The box stands on four original ball feet also retaining the original gilded finish. The underside has an old label.
The interior is as good as the exterior with the slips (edges) finished in green coloured Harewood. The interior retains it's original velvet fabric.
The box was made as a table top vitrine or display box perfect for a collection of smalls to cherish and admire. Equally, it would make the most wonderful antique jewellery box, the contents becoming a work of art being able to be viewed when the box is closed.
A fabulous and very usable box in excellent original condition. 12" x 8" x 3 3/4", the glass measuring 10 1/4" x 6 1/4".
