Antique 1920s Doxa pocket watch & chain.
Antique 1920s Doxa pocket watch & chain.
The watch has a 15 jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Doxa name. Doxa was (and still is) an independent Swiss company, founded in 1889 by Georges Ducommon who started his watch making apprenticeship at the age of just 12 years old. Doxa was a well respected company famous for their diver's watches but they also supplied both the British and German military with high spec watches.
The regulator is marked F and S for Fast and Slow but is also, more unusually, marked V and N for Vorrücken and Nachlassen which indicates that the watch was probably made for the German market.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is signed with the Doxa name and has details of various exhibition medals won in Liege in 1905 and Paris in 1925.
The watch measures 48.3mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel and has light surface marking from use and some mild bruising to the back but overall it is in nice condition for a 1920s piece. The inside of the back cover is also signed Doxa.
The acrylic lens is in nice condition.
The dial is in nice condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
The watch comes on a vintage graduated chain which measures 30 cm including the clasps.
