Epstein antique furniture was originally founded in East London by Polish immigrants in the 1890s. The firm passed to brothers Harry and Lou Epstein and the pair turned their attention to the production of Art Deco forms from the 1930s until the 1950s. Finished to high standards, most pieces were custom-made in veneers of burr maple, sycamore or walnut.

This stool is a fine example of their work, is in burl maple and dates from the mid 1930's. The leather seat has been recovered, the brass piping is original but was probably covered in leather. 380mm high, 760mm wide and 430mm deep. Circa 1935. W J Gravener Antiques is a family owned business, started in 1963 by William who was joined by son, Mark in 1981 and continues today with the same ethos of dealing in fine quality English and Continental furniture, mirrors and decorative objects, from the 18th & 19th centuries. Now under the stewardship of Mark and his wife, Louise, we take pride in maintaining the high standards which William set more than 50 years ago.
